Dear Parents,
Because I am posting for the last day this week, I feel like it is the last day of school before Easter Vacation. Just think, we do not have to think school until April 20th after Friday. I do think it is time to take a little break. I have been busy learning Google Classroom and have enjoyed some new learning. See you there on April 20th.
Owen was busy writing his Easter story. I have to share it because I loved the eagerness to send it my way:
If I were the Easter bunny I would give Noah A. a basket of stuff.
I would give him a lot of nerf guns to play with.
I would also give him a big trampoline to have fun on.
Finally I would hide a lot of Easter eggs and then run away and hide until he finds them.
By the way I would love to get a lot of books in mine.
IT would be fun to be the Easter bunny.
-- Thank you for continuing to write your story and if you wish me to post it, tell me and I will continue to do that this week.
--Simple Solutions #105-106
--in your big Reading Book--go back and read your favorite story. In your journal, tell me why it was your favorite story. How did the story make you a better person? Would it be a good story for you to tell others to read ?
--Math is Prodigy or eSpark
--of course you keep studying those flash cards
--on Friday, take your spelling test in your journal! Draw your own Easter picture around it!
--Most of all, Happy Easter! These next three days we have to chance to be with Jesus at the Last Supper, in the Garden before they take Him away, on the Cross as he dies, at the tomb as he is buried and there when the stone is rolled away on Easter Sunday!! Know that I am praying for you and I miss you very much. Happy Easter and enjoy your week off.
Week 4 Atrium Challenge: Jesus' Resurrection Eggs
I challenge you to make resurrection eggs with Jesus! This week when you color eggs with your family, color one (or a few) to remind you of Jesus' resurrection, mercy, and love. If your family doesn't color eggs, that's okay. You can draw, paint, sculpt or even make one out of legos! I can't wait to see what you come up with, send me pics to [email protected]

Dear Parents,
The holiest week of the year...may we pause often to remember who gave us the life we have and to whom do we belong, and in whose arms do we wish to be held forever. Try to say "Jesus, I love You, Jesus I thank You, Jesus I praise You as many times as you can this week. Praying for each of you in the struggle that is all around us.
This is my final week to use Weebly since we will be using a new platform on April 20th. I will post today and Wednesday and then we all get a week off to enjoy Easter. I am sure you have seen the letter from Mr. Martin Linder explaining our use of Google Classroom. I think as we move into it we will like it more and more.
This is your challenge for this week:
--Simple Solutions in both books #103-104
--Play Prodigy for Math this week
--Play e-Spark for reading this week
--in your journal, write a story: If you were the Easter Bunny, who would you make a basket for and what would you put in it? Tell this person in the story, what you hope to find in your own. You can send them if you wish and I will post them for your classmates to enjoy. Have fun.
--draw a picture to go with your story.
--for Spelling this week: learn these words and have mom or dad test you by Friday: Easter, basket, colorful, precious, lily,
resurrection, glory, bunny, tulips, lamb, grass, chocolate hopping, spring, rabbit, jellybeans, hatch, hidden, parade, games.

Der Parents,
Good Morning and welcome to the third week of vacation! My hope is that I have made these lessons easy for you to understand. First, let us look at what Mrs. Rizzo would like us to think about as we get closer to Easter. We have just one week til Holy Week.
Week 3 Atrium Challenge: Join Jesus at the Last Supper
I challenge you to put yourself into the Last Supper. You could build the Last Supper out of legos or blocks, you could sculpt it from play-doh or clay, you could recreate the scene using your stuffed animals, dolls, or action figures, you could draw a picture, or you could even act it out with your family one night at dinner. I would love to see what you came up with, send me pics to [email protected]
Here is the link to past challenges if you or your kids want to see pics.
https://sites.google.com/ncsmail.org/atrium/challenges
Anmarie sent me a very good link for Religion but I cannot find it so I will have her send it again. Thanks Anmarie!
Second, look at these good books from your classmates:
Kira
I am reading Harry Potter, and the Cursed Child and it’s all about Harry’s son Albus and his sister and brother. Ron and his wife Hermine's kids went to Grifandor. Harry and his wife Ginny’s kids should go to Grifandor but Albus went to Slytherin along with his friend Scorups. Albus , Scorups and their new friend Delphy have stolen the time turner from the Ministry of Magic and are planning to save Cedric Diggery from Voldermort in the Triwizard Tournament but failed both times they tried. Now they are trying to destroy it but they found out that Delphy was not their friend and before they could say anything she wrapped them up with tight ropes from her wand.
Abel
Since we've been off school, I have been reading the Last Kids on Earth book series.
So, there is this girl, her name is Evie, and she stole Jack's weapon, and one day they found out that Evie was a bad guy, and she was going to summon the undead General named Ghazt. The kids needed to find a human body that got bit by a zombie. Then she had to get the undead person, then get something in her hands that was valuable which was Jack's weapon. Then there was a monster that grabbed Jack and June and Quint. Jack had an idea. They were having a Christmas party, and Jack made a Christmas present for June, and he gave it to her. It was kind of like an ironman arm. She could do crazy things with her arm, and she cut the rope that had connected her to Jack and Quint. Then Jack ran and he landed on Evie.
Owen
The book is Kane Chronicles, The Throne of Fire, by Rick Riordan. It is about a brother and sister named Carter and Sadie. They are Egyptian people who believe in Egyptian gods. And are trying to find 3 scrolls to bring back Ra, the god of the sun. And they have 4 days to find the 3 scrolls and awaken Ra or else the snake god of chaos (Apophis) will take over the world. Also, Carter is in search for his girlfriend that he met in the first book that was a clay statue that could move around and do magic. That's it. That's as far as I am right now.
Third, I guess it is time for me to tell you what I want you to do: First you have to
find packet #3
--Simple Solutions in both books #99-100 by Wednesday
--handwriting sheet in packet "W"
--math sheet 23-24
--In your smaller reading book, look at the vocab. on page 374-375
--vocab. sheet page 231 in your packet
--do your first read on page 233
--do Papaer Packet pages 233-236
--read Dolores Huerta on pages 376-379
--how does Dolores show you what it means to be a good citizen?
Have a great start to your week.
March 25, 2020
Today is the Feast of the Annunciation, which means 9 months til Christmas!! Today we celebrate the angel coming to Mary to ask her to be the mother of God. Are we as ready to say yes to what God wants us to do as Mary was?
I can see that you have been busy on Prodigy and on eSpark. These are great tools to keep up on your math and reading which are the two most important subjects for third grade. The following are things I want you to do by Friday.
--Simple Solutions #97-98
--finish the handwriting sheet for the week on the letter Z
--math paper pages 21-22
--Paper Packet 226-230
--in your Big Reader, read the story "Wildfires" 416-425
--in the section Wildfires Are Not All Bad on page 420, using page 222 in your packet, tell me three details that give me the author's Point of view that wildfires aren't all bad.
--for writing this week you are going to use page 370 in your smaller reading book and answer the question ,"How do rescue dogs and workers work as a team to help people?" You will want to give me details from the story to support your topic sentence. They draw a picture to go with your story.
--check out Mystery Science that I sent you Monday
--what good book are you reading? write a summary of it.
--enjoy the rest of the week!
Dear Parents,
God has blessed us with the midpoint of our Lenten Journey. Please continue to reflect on your promise and color in your chart. Connect to Mrs. Rizzo's page for making a crown of thorns this week. Last week some of yoy created the tomb. Great ideas. The pictures were awesome. Joey! They are in the above link!! Check out what Mrs. Rizzo has for you to do this week!
Week 2 Atrium Challenge: Jesus' Crown of Thorns
I challenge you to recreate the crown of thorns. You could use play-doh, salt dough (super easy recipes online), toothpicks, pipe cleaners, legos, or whatever you can imagine. Pray with Jesus about what it was like for Him to have to wear a crown of thorns. Then display your crown for the rest of lent. I would love to see what you came up with, send me pics to [email protected]
Below are some Mystery Science Lessons I thought you might enjoy seeing. Choose the ones that you might enjoy seeing.
What is the mostdangerous animal in the world?
Why do cats purr?
Can animals get a sunburn?
Why is the sky blue?
How do germs get inside your body?
How does hand sanitizer kill germs?
These next couple days try to do the following:
-- Simple Solutions 95-96

Dear Parents,
I have shout outs to Ella, Casey, Isaac, Elise, AnMarie, Kendall, Alondra, Noah S., Jamie, and Choloe for their work on eSpark. Keep up the great energy!
I hope you had a nice St. Patrick's Day!! I should of asked all my students to build a leprechaun trap!! That would of taken them some hours. Hey, they could build a bunny trap!
From now until Friday I would like them to:

--Did you write a topic sentence that grabs me, indent, use capital letters, periods. add some description, draw a picture of your story.
--Are you reading a good book?
March 16, 2020
Dear Parents,
The goal of the work that I have sent home with your child is to keep the learning going and not see a lag. I wanted them to feel the familiar pattern we were using in the classroom. If they do a little every day, then we are not letting that brain go mushy! I used that word Friday and they liked it. So this week you will look at Packet #1. It has a red #1 in the corner of the Multiplication Chart. I sent the chart because some still need it for their facts.
Enjoy the new theme for this week: "How can we reuse what we already have?" This is a great discussion around the home.
From now until Wednesday, March 18 (over two days)
--look at your new vocabulary on page 346-347 in your smaller reading book
--do page 211 in your reading packet after looking over the vocabulary
--Do a 1 minute read on "The Jar Garden" and record on page 215. Read the article and answer the questions on page
215
--read "The New Hoop" pages 348-351 in your smaller reader. Think about the problem that KIm and Marco had and how they reused something to solve it. Think about what you reuse or could reuse.
--Read "Musical Recycling" and answer the three questions in your paper packet 216
--do both sides of your math sheet
--do one side of the handwriting
--get on eSpark or Prodigy
--email me at [email protected] if you have any questions, or call or text me at 419 681 6841.
--mark your cross and keep that Lenten journey going.
Love,
Sr. Carolyn who already misses you!
A Little something from Mrs. Rizzo
Atrium Challenge #1: Be a Master Builder with Jesus
I challenge you to get out your legos (or other blocks) and build Jesus' tomb. You could even put a character to represent Jesus in the tomb and then open the tomb up on Easter morning and have it be empty (you might even have Angel Michael standing on the tomb after he rolled back the stone). Good luck! I would love to see pics: you can email them to [email protected]

Dear Parents,
Yes, it has been an interesting week, and now an interesting three weeks. What can you do to help your child? At this point, I just want to make sure you have access to my Weebly page as I can always post there. Though you get a copy of my weekly letter on Monday, it is posted on Weebly. You get on the NCS school page, then Elementary, Staff, and then Sr. Carolyn Marie. I plan to post on Monday and Wednesday.
We as a staff have an inservice on Monday and may be given more guidelines to put out there for our students. As of today I have sent home a little packet for each week. This is not material to be graded but rather a help as they move through material that I will post. I have sent home their reading books. Reading a story a week is my goal, two math papers, one handwriting, and their regular paper packet. But you know that you are the primary educator of your child, so these are suggestions to help your child not let that brain go mushy.
--read, encourage your child to get into a book and keep going. Be hard on them about this. They brought home two books today. They have a Stomper Ticket that needs four books to be read. They can accomplish this now that they have time at home. They were all encouraged to do this today.
--flash cards, those who are stuck on 7, 8, 9,s, have them write the number families until they know them by heart. (Ex. 9 x 4 = 36, 4 x 9 = 36, 36 - 9 = 4, 36 - 4 = 9) Keep studying those flashcards.
--Do 4 Simple Solutions Lessons a Week in both grammar and math. You will see these posted next week. They did #91 today for Monday. So 92-95
--encourage your child to color their Lenten Cross if they have kept their promise. They can continue that Lenten Journey
--continue their work on Prodigy for a certain # of minutes a day. An hour is not too much.
--continue their work on eSpark and this is even more helpful than Prodigy
--Music: www.musicplayonline.com (login: snow password: 2020)
Most of all, let us continue to pray for those affected, let us use good common sense in washing our hands often, and staying away from crowds. I know you already know this because of the caring parents you are.
Gratefully,
Sister Carolyn Marie Schaffer
Week 4 Atrium Challenge: Jesus' Resurrection Eggs
I challenge you to make resurrection eggs with Jesus! This week when you color eggs with your family, color one (or a few) to remind you of Jesus' resurrection, mercy, and love.

Remember you can also do music from www.music playonline.com from Mrs. Clark. login : snow password:2020

If your family doesn't color eggs, that's okay. You can draw, paint, sculpt or even make one out of legos! I can't wait to see what you come up with, send me pics to [email protected]

If I were the Easter bunny I would give Noah A. a basket of stuff
